Nevada Court Information

THE NEVADA SUPREME COURT is the highest court in the Nevada judicial system. The main constitutional function of the Supreme Court is to review appeals from the decisions of the district courts. The Supreme Court does not pursue fact-finding by conducting trials, but rather determines whether legal errors were committed in the rendering of the lower court's decision and will then either affirm, modify, or set aside the decision on appeal. The court must consider all cases filed. The Nevada Supreme Court is located at:
201 South Carson Street, Carson City, NV 89701-4702
Phone: (775) 684-1600
Fax: (775) 684-160.

THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT OF NEVADA is the trial court of the federal court system. The U.S. District Court has jurisdiction to hear nearly all categories of federal cases, including both civil and criminal matters. A case may be filed in federal court based on the "diversity of citizenship" of the litigants, such as between citizens of different states, or between United States citizens and those of another country. An important limit to diversity jurisdiction is that only cases involving more than $75,000 in potential damages may be filed in the federal court. Claims below that amount may only be pursued in state court. The United States Bankruptcy Court is a unit of the U.S. District Court.  Through the bankruptcy process, individuals or businesses that can no longer pay their creditors may either seek a court supervised liquidation of their assets, or they may reorganize their financial affairs and work out a plan to pay off their debts.  The U.S. District Court is located at:
333 Las Vegas Boulevard., South Las Vegas, NV 89101
